EAT was contracted to excavate and remove both unknown and known substructures and piping, MGP-impacted material, and TSCA-level PCB-impacted material from an area directly adjacent to an active natural gas facility. This project involved several different waste streams that required extensive effort to excavate, manage on-site, stockpile, transport, and dispose of at multiple different facilities.  The known/unknown substructures included a tar holder, USTs, concrete pads, timber piles, abandoned natural gas piping, and asbestos-wrapped piping. EAT excavated and removed almost 5,000 tons of MGP-impacted soil and debris, 500 tons of TSCA-level PCB-impacted soil and debris, 2,500 linear feet of piping, and shipped 180,000 gallons of water offsite that had both MGP and PCB impacts.

EAT was contracted to perform site remediation in Flemington, NJ. The project involved the excavation, transportation and disposal of 16,000 tons of MGP impacted soil, diverting 1,200 linear feet of a stream and excavating the sediment within that stretch.

Restoration of the stream and both banks included a variety of stabilization techniques including the installation of coir logs on both sides, live stakes and brush mattresses.

Enviro-Air was contracted to perform remedial activities at a former wire recycling facility that is on the EPA Superfund List. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Army Corp of Engineers (USACE) and the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) were involved in the oversight of this project. The site contained approximately 350 million pounds of heavy metal impacted waste insulation material, commonly known as fluff, in a 12-acre open pile on a 20-acre site. The clean-up activities included the following:
  • Rerouted on-site access road to a waste water treatment plant
  • Relocated above-ground utilities underground
  • Removal of fluff material from wetlands areas
  • Reshaping of the fluff pile
  • Installing a drainage system under the area to be capped and connecting to the on-site waste water treatment system
  • Isolation and containment of contaminates within the fluff pile with a multi-layered impermeable cap
  • Installing a drainage system to divert water off of the cap and into designated drainage ditches
After the impermeable cap was complete, gabions and reno mattresses were installed and the wetlands were restored with several thousand herbaceous plugs, live stakes, trees and shrubs.

Enviro-Air was contracted to remediate several different locations at a former Manufactured Gas Plant and demolish an industrial building.

Once the building was demolished, approximately 5,000 tons of MGP impacted soil from a gas holder were excavated, transported and disposed of.

Remediation continued in a wetlands area. Enviro-Air installed a temporary Aqua Dam and dewatered the area.  A cement-based reagent was utilized to successfully perform in-situ stabilization (ISS) on 6,200 cubic yards of MGP impacted sediment.  When the ISS work was completed, gabions and reno mattresses were installed around the perimeter of the stabilized area.  More than 26,000 square feet of area was restored and over 1,000 wetlands plants were planted.

A third phase of this project was the excavation of a gas holder foundation and impacted soil in the rear parking lot of a supermarket.  Site activities were carefully coordinated so as to cause the least amount of disruption as possible to the supermarket operations.

Enviro-Air was contracted to demolish two industrial buildings on the corner of an extremely busy street that was part of an old MGP site. EAT contracted an asbestos abatement contractor to remove asbestos pipe wrap, floor tiles and roofing materials. After the removal of the asbestos containing materials, interior piping and other metals were removed and shipped off-site for recycling. Over (50) 100-yard walking floor trailers of debris were loaded and shipped to a local landfill for disposal.
